What is a Ceramic Coating and How Do They Work?
Ceramic Coatings are a type of protective coating applied to various surfaces, such as paint, glass, trim, and wheels that add a protective layer to the surface they are applied. A ceramic coating is a thin ceramic based polymer typically made of ceramic nanoparticles that are suspended in a liquid carrier that evaporates after application, leaving behind a hard, durable, and transparent layer. Traditional waxes and sealants essentially leave behind protection on the surface, but ceramic coatings differ in the strength of the bond and the overall durability of the protection.
When applied to a surface, the ceramic nanoparticles bond with the surface at the molecular level, creating a strong and durable coating. The coating creates a hydrophobic surface, which repels water, dirt, and other contaminants, preventing them from adhering to the surface and causing damage.
Ceramic coatings also provide UV protection, which helps to prevent the color of the material from fading due to sun exposure. Additionally, they can provide chemical resistance, protecting the surface from damage caused by exposure to harsh chemicals, bugs, bird droppings and tree sap.
